Explain one way in which music videos use media language to differ from each other. refer to one example of contrasting media language in two music videos you have studied to support your answer. Music videos use media language such as the use of camera angles, colours and characters to create different effect's to fit the meaning of the song and the musicians image that would relate to their target audience. Music videos use media language in a variety of ways to represent and attract target audience. In the case of my case studies skater boy and teenage dirtbag the target audience is similar as both aim at 13-24 year olds. However skater boy aims at a indie alternative skater audience but teenage dirtbag aims for a more mainstream audience. Sk8er boi and teenage dirtbag both have similarities and differences thought out their music videos. Sk8er boy has more of a rebellious theme, where as Teenage dirtbag has a more stereotype theme when using the average american love story. ...

Stage 1-  There was a relationship between the lyrics and visuals which illustrate, amply, or contradict the lyrics Stage 2-  Seeing the sounds- the relationship between the music (not the lyrics) and the visuals, which amplify or contradict the music. Stage 3- Genre- related style and iconography present. Stage 4- multiple close-ups of the main artist or vocalist: the creation of a star image to promote a recognisable brand image. Voyeurisim (keyword) Where in your music video are they trying to show you that the artist or someone in it is good looking/attractive. And encouraging you to see their desirable qualities. Stage 5- intertextual references to other media texts may be present especially in humorous videos. Not uncommon to recognise either the visuals or lyrics of a song to be a direct reference to another media text. Use of famous actors, models, or videos mimicking films or television.

Music videos Theory

Music videos are comprised of three types of image - Performance clips - simple and direct Conceptual clips - further broken down into Narrative and Artistic  In the majority of the videos they are combined Performance clips - is a video that shows the vocalist(s) in one or more settings, such as the recording studio or on-stage at a concert. Narrative clips - Have a visual story that is easy to follow. A pure narrative clip contains no lip-synchronised singing. The story is an idea, a "concept", hence conceptual. the narrative usually relates to the song in someway, albeit subtle at times. Artistic clips - Music videos use artistic elements to enhance the overall piece. some are purely artistic since they show sequences with no obvious narrative and no singing. they can be described as artistic since they purposefully manipulate images but don't tell any sort of story. purely artistic videos are more common in electronic or experimental videos Artistic perfo...

Camerawork - establishing shots - a shot is filmmaking or television that sets up the context for the scene ahead, designed to inform the audience where the action will be taking place. shows relationship between people and objects, and establishes the scenes geography   low angle, high angle, canted angle or aerial shots - ( low angle ) a shot from a camera angle positioned low on a vertical axis, anywhere below the eye line, looking up. ( high angle ) where the camera looks down on the subject, can make the subject seem powerless. ( canted angle ) camera angle that is deliberately slanted to one side.
