Write up Article for DPS -

--- Need to do next time ----
  • Might have to change the colour pallet
  • Change some of the writing on the front colour with font and colour

Wednesday 21st October 2020
Statement of intent
  •     LO/ to produce a concise and clear statement.

My brief is Fashion magazine for 14-18 year olds.

My target audience is specific to females, with low income. They are mostly aimed at rural areas, and are mostly explorers and reformers. I plan to appeal to them by aiming the fashion that is best suited to the areas that they live around.

Based on my research the main codes and conventions I plan to follow are a Masthead, I plan to have the masthead in a black in a wavy font to make it stand out from the rest. From my research of teen fashion magazines, I have found out that there are main colours used for each magazine based on what it is aiming it at. With this in mind I am going to have the colour palette as Orange, Yellow for my background to try and make it stand out from other fashion magazines and Black as a masthead colour to make it seem that it is standing out of the page. I am planning to have a pop of pink and red in the cover line to make it pop out to the target audience. With this in mind I am planning to make the main image empowering so it can attract females that need a bit of a boost. I am also planning to make my layout, with a large photo of the double page spread and with 3 smaller photos on the inside this.

I plan to uses anti-stereotypes, to appeal to my target audience that is mainly Female. They are being Empowering however they are also going to be comfortable in their own skin.

I plan to use intertextuality as, I would write how we are in these tough times, however they can still look beautify and empowering no matter the situation.

Coursework Audit

Edited article  - complete 11/11/2020

It’s been 8 months since the world has been normal, its throwing back to the simpler times. Let me show you how fashion has changed over these harsh times. Going back to the next top autumn fashion, I am going to showing you what it’s like to dress nice but live in comfort. It may be hard to express yourself in these tough times, but we will give you some tips on how you can look the best and be confident. We have a stunning autumn fashion tips that can get you into the new season, by the orange and blue look shown by our helpful model.

I am going to start it off with some killer fashion in a, autumn leaved forest with my favorite outfit, rocking grey skinny jeans and black Sweatshirt. To prove you don’t need expensive brands to look like a star, and be confident in your own skin no matter the gender, race or size. To make you feel like you are on top of the world but still be safe and fashionable in these hard times. I have spoken to … to see what they think of this autumn fashion this year and if she would be seen wearing it in public in 2020.

For my final fashion tip, I am showing that you don’t need to wear revealing clothes to make yourself beautiful, that you can be beautiful and feel beautiful by looking at our model in clothes that doesn’t reveal skin. With blue skinny jeans rocking a grey and white jumper to pull the outfit all together. This shows no matter what you wear or do you can look the best by only spending a little bit of money or matching already owned clothes together, with the autumn style in thought by wearing clothes that make you feel the best.

MOCK Dirt

Section A - MUSIC
What to do next time

1) OFCOM regulator

2) 'Teenage dirtbag' Wheatus and 'skater boy' Avril Lavigne

    Media language
  • Narrative (story)
  • Mise-en-scene (costume/setting)
  • Camera-work / editing
  • Soundtrack

Differences - explain and give an example

Music videos uses camera work to differ from each other to reveal different moods and atmosphere in the music videos. They may choose to use a naturalistic camera work to show the reality of a situation compared to using highly stylised camera work to show professional style.

In the music video i have studied clear differences is seen in the use of media language through....the use of the camera-work/ mise-en-scene/ narrative/ soundtrackThe explain and describe the differences in the music videos. As in 'Teenage dirtbag' the camera work is ......., where as in the music video 'skater boy' the camera work is ........ This shows there are differences as one is ..... (maybe clearer or more shaken/ possible a different mood).

3)  How they target different audiences using different methods :
  •  How target -(method)
  •  why - advertisers or public services (to get money)
  •  Live lounge example

Radio producers target different audiences through the content of their radio programmes, local radio stations and only available on FM in the local areas although some can be accessed through an online presence. Local radio targets a specific audience through their coverage of local events , weather and advertising local business opportunities. Radio producers target particular audiences through their use of style and genre of a radio programme.

This can be seen in the Radio 1 live lounge which uses an acoustic style to attract their audience along with a young presenter to attract a younger audience. This can be seen in the Harry Styles performance where he appeared and preformed a current hit to attract younger audiences then he covered an older track by Fleetwood Mac which would appeal to a older wider audiences especially in the acoustic style.

4) Representation of musicians
  • Talk about an aspect that create representation - image, text, colour, setting?
  • What representation is created?
  • What does this suggest to the audience?

On the cover of the Mojo magazine we can see that the image is of Ray Davies. The colour scheme is monochrome, (black and white) which makes the piece seem more of a classic and serious. This image creates the representation of a classical musician, that was in the older days as the black and white colour represents a time before colour cameras. As well as it gives the audience a feeling that the piece is a classic. This makes the audience think that the musician is a legend that started in the black and white era.

5)
  • similar elements of media language
  • different elements of media language
  • use examples for each.

State whether they are similar or different because of genre conventions or music type. Do they reflect magazine conventions or music conventions? Uses examples to support.

Section B -Promoting media  (lego movie)

6) BBFC (rates ages in the uk - films)
Games rating authority or The video standard council

7)  Likely to be about theoretical framework and media industries.

2 Reasons why they would release both film and video game.
     Give reasons and explain it.
  • Strengthen branding
  • increase fan enjoyment
  • increase profit overall for the conglomerate
  • Diversify the product so increase possibility of success
  • (Promoting)

8) 2 Examples given for the following
  • Know the theory well - explain it (Knowledge)
  • Apply the theory to the film (understanding)
  • Give specific examples from the film
Uses and gratification: FILM
  • Entertainment: Pleasure and to escape the real world.
  • Personal identity: Identify with characters in the film, role models.
  • Surveillance: Gain understanding of the world, E.G. news information
  • Social interaction/ personal relations: Keep in touch via video game communities, or discuss the film with peers.
Blumer and Kats stated that media products were there for the audience's entertainment, they were for pleasure and to escape the real world. This can be applied to the lego movie as it provides humour and escapisms from the real world into a lego world for children......(pleasure- humour, escapism, provides a different world) We can see this specially in the character/ setting of emmet, who is funny and breaks the conventions and can inspire children. They do this thought the portrayal in the film were he goes from being a normal everyday guy  to a hero, this can have an influence on the children that watch it. As well as a humours personality he gives off, and how he is in a imaginary world that provides some escapism for children. Children can also relate to him in how he loves living in the lego world and children can relate through their love of playing with lego......(Emmet - funny, breaks conventions, he lives in a lego movie world that he loves)

Blumer and Kats stated that personal identity is there for the audience to relate to the characters in the film and see them as role models. This can be applied to the lego movie as the characters in the film provide these relationship with the audiences and can relate to them as well. We can see this through the character of Wyldstyle, who isn't a very stereotypical female character and goes against most female conventions a lot and this can inspire young girls/ children. The film provides a non stereotypes of females as .....

9)  How did the promotional campaign target a family audience?
  • Poster
  • TV ad
  • Merchandise
  • Social media
  • Video games

1. Accurate analysis of how the campaign appealed to a family audience.
        (poster)
  • Colour pallets
  • Lego figures- familiar to all
  • Characters in the posters appeal to the boys, girls and adults
2. Mention to media context- genre hybridity - Lego and DC - post-feminism in promotion,
    globalisation of product.
  • Global context of the actors- famous globally, attracts a wider audience.
3. Full focus on the campaign elements being analysed to target the audience-representations
  • Detailed analysis of representations created in the poster and how that attracts a family audience
