1960s Cover October 66

Five things i know about 1960s attitudes-
  • Racism
  • Sexism
  • Homophobia
  • Nationalism
  • Worried about war

Gender/ sexism

  • a respectful low-angle shot of the queen.
  • to show that she is the one in power and not her husband the Duke of Edinburgh
  • This shows a change in democracy as their is not a King to rule but the Queen, making it a good thing for gender as we have had around 8 Queens

  • a down low-shot of Duke of Edinburgh back
  •  to show that his is not the power figure, and that the queen is more important
  • less important view of the duke of Edinburgh the Queens husband, anti-feminism because feminism is about equality
  • Didn't get the name of king to show that the queen is the ruler

  • this shows women in lingerie
  • objectification of women as you don't see men in their boxers
  • shows progression in the terms of the contraceptive pill and attitude

Racism  -

  • This shows racism as they said that the dark skin, people have to go back to Spain and they will have the rock
  • The article said 'Spain can have the apes' this is an example of racism
  • In short they are saying black people/ dark skin are not welcome

  • This shows racisms as Russia is still represented as spies
  • Because of the war

Nationalism
  • Traditional britishness
  • tea and welsh cakes
  • An example of British History As we are known for drinking tea with cakes

  • the Queen and duke of Edinburgh shows there compassion for the dead as they place a wreath of pink carnations

Not sure if this is nationalism <--
