Mojo exam case study


Mojo is a magazine that is for serious music lovers who like a series of different musics but issue is mostly focused on classic rock. Mojo's target audience is from 35-70 year olds that are mostly men but some females. It is a magazine of high brand and integrity, the media language on this cover appeals to the target audience for a number of reasons.
The cover of this magazine features a low angle medium close up of the famous UK/USA band Fleetwood Mac. The main image uses a monochrome colour pallet (black, white and red) with small patches of yellow dotted around, which is a masculine colour scheme. This use of colour connotes a serious tone and is appropriate for a rock band magazine aimed at male readers 35+ with a serious interest in music. Underneath the main image is a picture of The iconic ban is their younger days but it is flipped as though they are looking up at their older selves. This way this works, and the low angle shot, connotes the group are now god like. This attracts the older audience who will want to read about people their age or older who are still famous. The main image also works by making the audience fell nostalgic as Fleetwood would have been a band they enjoyed in their youth.
The free give away CD of the magazine is a image of a gold square,with Motor City soul on it. It use bright colours so it would attract the peoples eye making they want to buy it, that connotes a more fun feel to the magazine. The colour is golden so it would attract the upper class audiences. As it is an magazine of high brand and integrity. The fact that it is a famous band the target audience will know and the magazine will attract them
The masthead uses block (bold)Capitals in a sans-serif font which makes it more appealing. The masthead uses a colour pallet of white and grey.
The layout of the magazine focuses on the main image of the band, they used a low camera shot to show how god like they are, as they are in the 70s but its still like they are in their 30s. As they are still preforming. The images shows the band when they were younger underneath and them when they are older on top.
The minor images are located at the top of the magazine. It is a small box in the colour red, this makes it stand out as it is bright, the left hand corner that says ' includes 15-track CD! ' this draws the audience in as if you buy the magazine you will get a free CD with it. With two photos one with a man and a microphone and one with three females. located in the middle and top right corner of the magazine.
The lexis (teasers) means words/ language, for example on the magazine says "its a miracle that we survived" that is a quote from the band.

THE IMAGE ALSO WORKS BY MAKING THE audience feel nostalgic as Fleetwood WOULD HAVE BEEN A BAND THEY ENJOYED IN THEIR YOUTH.
